Ridley United Lightning
Beware! You've Been Struck.
Note from the Coach
The U-9 Ridley United Lightning have kicked off the second half of their inaugural
season with some very impressive results. The team played the highly touted Radnor
Black Blitz team and impressed all with a very hard fought 2-1 victory.

Next on the agenda was the
Delco Soccer Columbus Day Tournament Day 1. The
Lightning was seeded in Group A with the fellow Division 3 team – WCUSC Pride 99
and a Division 2 team – Concord Soccer Sisters. The first game was a rematch with
WCUSC Pride 99, a team that had previously defeated the Lightning. The Lightning
totally dominated the West Chester squad and won the game 2–1, in a game not as
close as the score indicated, earning 3 points in the division. The second game was
against a well-rested Division 2 team – Concord Soccer Sisters. Fatigue from the
earlier game was setting in as the Lightning dropped a 5–1 decision but finished
second in the Group and advanced to the next stage.

Columbus Tournament Day 2 – The Lightning after finishing 2nd in Group A were
faced with playing the 1st place team in Group B – the Division 2 WCUSC Eagles
99.  The game was an end-to-end match that was very exciting and could not be
decided during regulation and overtime. The score remained tied 1–1 at the end of
overtime and had to move on to penalty kicks to determine the winner. In a stunning
finish, the Lightning advanced to the finals 2–1 on the last penalty kick.

Next up, the final game and a rematch with the Division 2 Concord Soccer Sisters.
This time the playing field was level with both teams having played 3 games in the
tournament so far. The final game was an intense end-to-end battle that remained
tied 0–0 at half time. The girls pooled every ounce of energy they had and continued
to play very aggressively against the higher seeded opponent. As the second half
wore on it was obvious that the first goal scored was probably going to determine
the game winner. The Lightning pressed hard and had several good chances to score
before the Soccer Sisters finally broke through and scored in the later stages of
the game. Concord later added a controversial goal and was the winner 2–0 in a game
that could have gone either way. The Ridley United Lightning U-9 girls finished 2nd
in the tournament and played extremely well and showed all the opponents that they
are a force to be reckoned with.

The Lightning finished ahead of Division 2 teams – WCUSC Eagles 99 and
Methacton Lightning and fellow Division 3 teams – WCUSC Pride 99 and Aston
Galaxy.

In the event of inclement weather, the coach will advise via phone call and/or email
with status.
